Sail with Captain Ted on Scenic eco-cruises on the beautiful Peconic Bay's estuary.

Join the famous Captain Ted Charles aboard this historic sailing skipjack Pilgrim.

Originally designed to work the shallow oyster grounds of the Chesapeake Bay under sail, her 2 1/2 foot draft allows access to the most beautiful secluded beaches and creeks of the Peconic Bay estuary. In many areas, shipmates will be able to get off the boat and wade ashore to observe marine life in the shallows. In addition, Pilgrim will carry one or two kayaks and tow a 20' oyster "sharpie" with an even shallower 6" draft for extended explorations of the myriad small bays, creeks, and flats. Shipmates may observe seldom seen water fowl, marine life, and aquatic plants. A birder's delight! Optional itineraries will include Robins Island, Flanders Bay, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, in areas inaccessible by car or bike and most boats.

More extended itineraries might feature overnight voyages up the Connecticut River, Port Jefferson sand dunes, Stonington, CT, and others even more ambitious. These will include large nature preserves and wild habitat.

Beauty, Peace, Serenity: what sailing is all about!

Shipmates will enjoy relaxed fun sailing with the Captain, chatting informally about history, ecosystems, and aquatic life. There will also be informal instruction in sailing and seamanship.
